To help support the Maroon Tide Baseball team, the Picayune Diamond Club is having their first golf tournament this Saturday at the Millbrook Golf and Country Club at 2:30 p.m. All proceeds will be given to the baseball program to purchase better equipment for the kids.
“In the past years, kids on the team would have to pay for their hats and shirts with their own money. I feel as if the kids should not have to spend anything. Having these type of things is what the proper experience of being on a team is about. Having top tier equipment is also a great way to become a top tier team, and that is what I want this program to be,” said Head Coach Cody Stogner.

The golf tournament was planned by the Picayune Diamond Club, which Stogner said is a non-profit booster club organization for the baseball team, consisting of parents and community members who support the program.

The tournament will be a 4-man scramble, meaning there will be four people per team. The cost is $50 per player or $200 per team. Registration will be held the day of the tournament.

Also, businesses can sponsor a hole for $50, Stogner said.

“What I want to accomplish is to get the community involved with the baseball program and the kids. It’s been more exciting than tough to plan all of this and it’s all worth it when you provide these kids the experiences and perks of being part of a great program, which this program is,” said Stogner.

The event has more to offer than just the tournament, said Stogner, including door prizes, a 50/50 raffle and contests for closest to the pin and longest drive.

There will also be first and second prize winners, Stogner said. A cap of four mulligans per player can be purchased for $5. Tournament tee-time will be 3:00 p.m. and will involve a shotgun start, said Stogner, meaning teams will begin on different holes, but start at the same time to avoid excessive waiting while other teams finish.

Stogner plans to continue holding more fundraisers for the program in the near future to help raise money for the kids.
