Local library is useful to community

Call me old-fashioned, but I doubt I will ever decide to download and read books on my iPad or Android phone.
I’m a fan of the physical copy of the book and turning the pages with anticipation.
Every summer, my sister and I participated in the summer reading program at our library in Bay St. Louis. My favorite series to read was the Nancy Drew series published under the pseudonym Carolyn Keene.
Another fun fact: I always read more books than my sister each summer and sometimes snagged the top award at the library.
Thursday, I went to the Margaret Reed Crosby Memorial Library and took a picture while members of the Friends of the Library set up for their book sale.
There are hundreds and hundreds of books located in Holland Hall right now. And the smell is just intoxicating.
I love the smell of old books. If they made a perfume of the scent, I would certainly purchase it.
Starting next Monday, the book sale will be open to the public and it’s a great opportunity to find a hidden gem amongst the massive amount of literature for sale.
Not only could you find your next favorite author, but you will also be contributing to a worthy cause, your local library system.
My mom worked as a librarian for about 14 years in Hancock County.
I took advantage of that fact by giving her a list of books I needed her to bring home for me to read.
Not only does your local library have books, they also have a trained and knowledgeable staff that can help with research projects and the ability to host a children’s program.
When I was in school, I didn’t conduct research online.
My afternoons were spent at my library reading reference books.
I hope some of you attend the sale and continue to contribute to our local library.
