Instagram: Feeding addictions

When I’m not busy working or spending time with friends and family, I love exploring my newest hobby, Instagram.
If you’re not familiar, it’s a social media application where people can post pictures of almost anything.
It’s a great tool for businesses and larger companies to market their newest merchandise through this application. I follow a local Picayune business and stay up to date on the owner’s latest finds.
As a makeup enthusiast, I follow many of my favorite YouTube personalities and makeup companies to learn when the newest releases will be available for sale.
In the makeup world, many companies release limited edition items, such as eye shadow palettes.
Tuesday, MAC Cosmetics released an image of their newest lipstick, which will be named after slain singer Selena Quintanilla. She was murdered 21 years ago by her former employee Yolanda Saldivar. The movie about her life is one of my favorites. She was a talented singer with what would have been a bright future.
The product has yet to be released, but I know it will sell out instantly due to the hype surrounding it. Interested buyers will wait hours stalking the website to purchase the item.
Recently, an eye shadow palette that smells like peaches was released by the Too Faced cosmetic company.
However, prior to the release date, a lot of hype was created about the limited edition item, leading to the sought after palette being sold out numerous times on about five different websites. I saw an Instagram post about the restocked item and within about 10 to 15 minutes, it was sold out again.
Instagram is also a great tool for artists to showcase their photography, drawing or makeup skills.
Social media has become a powerful tool.
While it can also be a nuisance at times, it’s a great way to stay connected with things going on in places far away from here or right here in Pearl River County.
