Monday, April 11 at 8 a.m., the Picayune Police Department will begin taking applications for their 14th annual Summer Camp program.
The program is offered at no cost to children and is sponsored by local businesses, civic organizations and individuals, Picayune Police Department Capt. Theresa Milar said.
“We are trying to make a difference and keep kids out of trouble,” Milar said. “We also want to bridge the gap between kids and officers and let them know that anytime they need us, we’ll be there.”
There will be two camps offered this June. The first will be for children ages seven to nine and will be held from June 6 -10. The second camp is offered to children ages 10 to 12 and will be held June 20-24.
Depending on availability, children will participate in a variety of activities, which can include bowling, rock climbing, painting and a class on making good choices, Milar said.
There are 50 slots available for each camp, Milar said, and spots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.
Each application must be notarized and a copy of the child’s health insurance card must also accompany the application.
When the completed application is turned in, the exact time and date will be noted, Milar said.
