Wednesday community leaders, emergency responders and military personnel enjoyed a lunch at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School recognizing them for their contribution to the community.
Being a public servant is not always a positive experience. It takes a special kind of person to want to provide assistance to those in need. The downside to such jobs include the late nights, working in stormy weather and dealing with the occasional unruly “customer.”
But these men and women head to the office, or put on their uniform and day in and day out provide the services that keep our community functioning properly.
Could you just imagine a world without lawmakers, police officers, fire fighters, paramedics or those who serve in the military?
The sanctity of Picayune and Pearl River County would be absent, most likely replaced with chaos.
Just think, if they did not report to work, who would put out the fires? Who would pull over the drunk drivers and speeders that put our friends and family in harm’s way?
Who would provide medical assistance to those involved in car accidents, suffering from a stroke or from some other medical emergency?
There would be no one to ensure laws are passed, and then enforced.
While these lunches are a great way to show our appreciation, don’t forget to share these sentiments with them face to face.
A simple “thank you” goes a long way in the hearts of those who devote so much of their time to ensure our safety and peace of mind.
