For the second time in less than six months, Poplarville’s Little River Outdoors has been burglarized.
The first incident occurred on July 3 at about 4 a.m. with the activation of the alarm at the gun store located at 1214 S. Main St., Poplarville Police Department Capt. Rossie Creel said in a July article. About $15,000 worth of guns and ammunition was stolen, previous coverage states. Several suspects were arrested in connection with the burglary, Creel said in July.
On Dec. 31 at 2:50 a.m., the alarm was activated at Little River Outdoors, Poplarville Police Chief Don “Butch” Raby said.
Upon officers’ arrival, they discovered the east window was broken, Raby said.
Inside the business, officers also observed a smashed display case, the police chief said.
Through their investigation, police learned that about $2,390 worth of weapons was taken, Raby said. The number of weapons stolen is not being released at this time since the investigation is still ongoing, Raby said.
After reviewing surveillance video footage, officers observed two male subjects wearing dark clothing and hoodies, the police chief said.
On Jan. 2 at 7:10 a.m., deputies with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop on a truck believed to be the vehicle from the surveillance video at the McNeill Travel Center, Raby said.
“After further investigation of surveillance videos, the truck had also been seen prior to the burglary at the shop,” Raby said. “The deputies contacted me and an arrest was made.”
Garrion O. Grice, 22, of 405 Love Ave., Lumberton was charged with one count of commercial burglary. No weapons were recovered at the time, Raby said.
The investigation is still ongoing and police are still searching for another suspect, Raby said.
“I would also like to thank the sheriff’s department for their help in this matter,” Raby said. “We appreciate it very much.”
In an effort to deter further criminal activity, Raby approached the Poplarville Board of Aldermen Tuesday with a plan to install two streetlights on Shivers Street behind Little River Outdoors and the Kangaroo Express, which the board approved.
