We would like to thank Picayune Main Street, the City of Picayune, downtown business owners and everyone who attended Friday night’s event, Shop by Candlelight and Christmas on the Rails.
Without the hard work and dedication of some of the city’s most loyal citizens, this event would not have had the festive, family-friendly and welcoming feel it did.
While strolling the streets of downtown, we saw children excited to see some of their favorite movie characters and for the chance to tell Santa Claus what they would like for Christmas.
The sound of laughter could be heard from the wagon and hay rides driven by some of the city’s more familiar faces, such as City Manager Jim Luke and Picayune Police Department Assistant Police Chief Jeremy Magri.
Near the clock, there was a group of carolers from the Senior Center of South Pearl River County serenading the crowd with their cheerful renditions of Christmas songs.
In every business, shoppers were either searching for gifts or visiting with old friends.
To say the least, it was a magical night, reminiscent of an old-fashioned Christmas.
In today’s world, the small-town friendly atmospheres are slowly disappearing.
The hustle and bustle of our hectic lives and the distraction of technology often take our attention away from what really matters, our families, friends and the preservation of community.
However, here in Picayune, there is a tireless effort underway to ensure this town grows, but retains the small town charm, which makes this city so unique.
It was a night to remember and one of those events we enjoy capturing for the community.
