Local artists will get a chance to display their works of art to the community during Hide-A-Way Lake’s 2015 Art Show and Reception.

The Pearl River County Arts League is sponsoring the event. League President Gail Sheasby said the event recognizes local artists and gives them an opportunity to promote their work.

“Three years ago, the Hide-A-Way Lake Club Social Committee decided an art show would be nice in order to bring culture and class to the community. It was a small show at first, it had to catch on, and now it keeps getting bigger every year,” Sheasby said.

Local artists still have a chance to register for the art show, which will take place on Nov. 14 and 15. Entry forms are available at the Hide-A-Way Lake Club office. Complete entry forms and fees must be received by Nov. 12 at noon.

The two-day event will be hosted at the clubhouse restaurant in Hide-A-Way Lake, located at 510 E. Lakeshore Drive. On Saturday, there will be an invitation-only reception for the participating artists and their guests from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Sunday, the community is welcome to view the art free of charge from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests will be able to purchase artwork during the show such as sculptures, jewelry, woodwork and wall paintings, Sheasby said. Credit cards, cash or check are all acceptable forms of payment.

On Sunday, guests and artists will be able to dine at the clubhouses’ restaurant, which only accepts cash or check.

Sheasby said there will be more than 20 local artists participating this year, including James Seal, a chainsaw artist, who creates art out of wood.

This year’s theme is “Life on the Lake.” Participating artists will get a chance to compete for the coveted award, the viewer’s choice prize.

Sheasby said it takes many people to make the art show a reality.

“I take care of getting the artists to come. We get help from many of our league members, like Norman Weinstein, who brings in screens for the show. The people that take care of everything are Kathy Stockstill and Robin Montalbano, who are head of the Hide-A-Way Lake’s social committee,” Sheasby said.

Anyone interested in attending the show must show a valid driver’s license before entering the gated community, Sheasby said.
