The Pearl River County Ministerial Alliance is currently accepting scholarship applications from students in the community pursuing a college education.

The committee will host its 2015 scholarship fundraiser revival to raise money for the program, which awards supplemental funds to select students in order to help cover their college expenses, Minister David Lee Hughes, the committee’s secretary, said in a previous story.

The fundraiser will take place on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. at The Lighthouse International Pentecostal Church located on 1001 S. Highway 11. The event is open to the community.

During the fundraiser, 2015 high school graduates will be honored and given 50 percent of a $500 supplemental scholarship, including Gloria Antoine, Shantel Acker, Jade C. Loftin, TyQuan Osborn and Joseph M. Spiers, according to a press release from the PRCMA.

“We decided to start this scholarship years ago because it gives these students money in their pockets, instead of it going directly to the institution,” he said in an interview in March. “It goes for their books, items like a refrigerator and even sneakers.”

To apply, graduating students from Pearl River County schools can receive an application in person or by mailing the request to Hughes’s office, which is located at 911 E. Sycamore Road.

To qualify for the scholarship, students must fill out an application, write an essay and turn in several documents, including a letter of acceptance and a letter of attendance from a university or community college, Hughes said.

Applications for 2016 will be available during the revival.

2016 high school graduates from Pearl River County are eligible to apply.
