While it’s important to remember the survivors and victims of breast cancer, it’s equally as important to applaud the men and women who donate their time and money to help those in need.
Saturday, firefighters from both Picayune and Poplarville fire departments, dressed in pink for breast cancer awareness, stood on street corners with their fire boots and raised money for locals.
According to officials, every penny raised will benefit people in Pearl River County.
Not only do our county’s firefighters risk their lives for our safety, but they also care about the community they protect.
The residents of this county are fortunate to have these men and women, most of whom volunteer their time, serving at our county’s fire departments.
These brave men and women were not the only heroes Saturday.
The many motorists who took the time to rummage through their pockets or handbags to donate what they could should also be commended.
In tough economic times, it’s hard to find an extra penny to donate to someone else, but many people in our community opened their hearts to those in need.
We live in a wonderful community where neighbors help neighbors and there is a fundraiser almost every week to benefit someone in need.
We applaud the men and women of this county who don the firefighter’s gear to save and protect us, and we also thank all the motorists who donated their hard earned money to a wonderful cause.
The dollar you donated Saturday may help a woman pay for a mammogram, cover travel expenses to and from chemotherapy treatments or just bring a much need smile to a face battling a very serious and scary disease.
Bringing joy to someone else in times of need is priceless.
