Speak your mind to your local representative

No matter what your political affiliation, the fact is, U.S. Congressman Steven Palazzo represents our congressional district.
Whether you voted for him or not, it’s important to show respect for those chosen to represent the people.
However one fact our elected officials should remember is, they work for the people.
Today, residents of Pearl River County have an opportunity to speak with Palazzo and voice their questions and concerns.
According to his resume, during his four years in Congress, he has been in favor of the passage of RESTORE Act and the “Space Exploration Sustainability Act.”
Palazzo’s first appearance will be in Picayune at PJ’s Coffee at 9 a.m. and his second will be at Pearl River Community College in Poplarville at 12:30 p.m.
Palazzo’s press secretary said in an email the congressman plans to talk about current events in Washington and updates to legislation.
During his last campaign in 2014, Palazzo’s top goals included reducing government spending, paying down America’s debt and putting the country on a path to a balanced budget.
Locally, especially along the Gulf Coast, there’s the question of affordable flood insurance.
Whatever issue is on your mind, if you have the chance, this is an opportunity to let the congressman know what matters to you and what his constituents need him to focus on during his term in office.
Our representatives are elected by the people to serve their needs.
If you are able to attend the meeting today, do so, stand your ground and make your voice heard.
Our forefathers created the Constitution of the United States in order to give Americans liberty, justice and provide rules for those who govern and we should exercise that right to keep our political leaders in check.
