Pearl River Community College is kicking off their homecoming game on Oct. 17 with the second annual Homecoming Carnival. The free event invites families, students, faculty and staff to enjoy fun outdoor activities before the Pearl River Wildcats play against Northeast Mississippi Community College.

The carnival will be held at the practice football field across from the Dobie Holden Stadium on the PRCC campus from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Traci Spence, coordinator of alumni services, said the event was started last year in order to rally the community together in support of the Wildcats.

“It’s a chance to reach out to our community and bring people to our campus,” Spence said.

During the event, there will be family-friendly games, a chance to win prizes, a character meet-and-greet with Mickey, Minnie, the Ninja Turtles and Elmo, bounce houses and train rides.

Several PRCC student organizations will be in attendance to offer food and drinks. Proceeds raised will go to their respective organizations.

Live entertainment includes an animal show, a magic show and an appearance from the PRCC cheerleaders and the Spirit of the River marching band.

Kickoff for the homecoming game between PRCC and Northeast Mississippi is at 2 p.m.

Prior to homecoming, the Pearl River Wildcats will play against the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs today at 7 p.m. at Perkinston. Gulf Coast has won four consecutive games since they lost at Northwest on Sept. 3. PRCC and Gulf Coast will be meeting for the ninetieth time, the most of any team the Wildcats have played in their history. Pearl River leads the series 54-34-1. The Bulldogs won last year’s meeting 7-0 in Poplarville, according to a press release from PRCC.
