Fall is in the air in Pearl River County. This month, there will be numerous fall-themed events catering to families in the community.
The Greater Picayune Arts Council is hosting their fifth annual Children’s Fairytale Fall Festival at Jack Read Park on Oct. 23, 24 and 25 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day. The council is currently seeking volunteers of all ages to assist during the three-day event, said Donna Aguilard, president of the arts council.
The event’s main attraction is story time, where children of all ages will be able to enjoy classic fairytales. Aguilard said this year they plan to engage children in story time by allowing them to wear costumes and act out the stories. Other family-friendly activities include hayrides, puppet parades and a costume showoff, where all family members are encouraged to dress up in costumes.
The event costs $1 per person, not including food, drinks and the hayrides.
“It’s a great time for kids of all ages to be involved. It’s also a time to spend time with your children,” Aguilard said.
All proceeds are donated to the council, which will be used for future events and their college scholarship fund.
Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Aguilard at 601-347-6883.
Other seasonal events include a fall sidewalk sale in downtown Picayune on Oct. 14 and the eighth annual Blues and Heritage Festival featuring Vince Vance and the Valiants, a local band by the name Remedy and Al “Carnival Time” Johnson on Oct. 24 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on West Canal Street. The Boulevard Cruisers of Picayune plan to make an appearance by cruising through downtown Picayune from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Those who plan to attend are asked to bring lawn chairs.
