Eugene DeBrow Jr., 82, of Bossier City LA, passed away on September 10, 2015, with his family by his side.

Eugene was born to the late Eugene Debrow Sr. and Hettie Gipson Debrow, June 15, 1933, at the family home in Poplarville MS. He is preceded in death by his brother, Arnold Debrow, his sister, Eleanor Debrow Forte and his son, Brian Thomas Laux. Eugene graduated with the Poplarville High School Class of 1953. Eugene served honorably in the U. S. Army during the Korean War at the Southeastern Signal School in Camp Gordon, Georgia as a Cryptographer Instructor and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. After his discharge from active duty he served eight years in the Army Reserve. Eugene returned to the Gulf Coast after his military service and there held different positions in retail sales or finance through the years to support his young family. He was never afraid to work hard or to learn something new. His natural confidence, reputation for honesty, dapper appearance and warm smile usually resulted in success. Eugene enjoyed helping people, finding solutions and the challenge of sales.

Eugene worked for CUNA Mutual Insurance Group for 26 years, rising through the ranks to Senior Executive Group Representative, a position he held until his retirement in 1999. During his career with CUNA Mutual he was the recipient of many District, Regional and National Recognition Awards. He mentored younger representatives and was instrumental in helping to found and charter many small credit unions across the State.

Continuing his commitment of service to the greater community, following his retirement, Eugene served for 10 years with the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Department as a member of the Volunteer Posse.

Eugene is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Norma Roberts DeBrow. He also leaves behind his children, son, Mical Eugene DeBrow of Houston, daughters, Lynn Miller and Lisa Stamper of Shreveport, sons, Richard Laux of Shreveport, and Chris Roberts of Tuscaloosa; his Grandchildren, Nicholas Palmer, Michelle Houston, Ryan Laux, Stephanie Bolinger, and Starr Laux; and his Great-Grandchildren, Michael, Brianna, Noah, Jena, Kristen, Kaitlyn and Karleigh.

The family wishes to recognize and express our sincere appreciation to the professional personnel of the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home, Willis Knighton Greenwood and Willis Knighton Bossier for their kind and compassionate care of Eugene during the past year. You will never know how grateful we all are.

Eugene will be missed by his large extended family and friends. The family invites all who knew him to attend a Celebration of Life gathering on Friday, September 18, 2015, from 4-6 pm, at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport LA 71106.
