After living nearly a year in Picayune, I’m still in awe at the camaraderie that exists between the people in this community.
In this day and age, it’s difficult to find tight-knit communities where neighbors help one another like family.
While it’s hard to find, camaraderie is customary in Pearl River County. For the past several months, I’ve met wonderful people and have witnessed firsthand the great things people do when they help one another out of the goodness of their hearts.
Yesterday, I met a man named Frank Bouderes, who lives in the Pines apartments, a housing facility for seniors and disabled people in Picayune. On a daily basis, Bouderes assists residents who need help accomplishing everyday tasks such as taking out the trash. It’s individuals like Bouderes who make a difference in this community.
While individuals have the power to make a difference, it’s only when we work together that we can move mountains.
Wednesday, Bouderes, along with other Pines residents, were treated to a special luncheon provided by the Picayune Police Department.
It was truly remarkable to witness the genuine bond law enforcement share with members of the community.
This bond not only makes a community stronger, but also builds a support system in which individuals can turn to in times of need.
Many of the residents living in the Pines don’t have family members to look after them.
However, those residents do have an entire community ready to help them through the good and bad times.
In other places, it’s rare to see neighbors helping neighbors in a community, but when it happens, it’s a magical thing.
The people in Pearl River County should serve as an example to the rest of the country on how to treat their fellow neighbors.
It’s with kindness, camaraderie and respect that we’re able to build strong, positive communities.
