Families can run for a good cause this Saturday during St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School’s third annual 5K run and one-mile fun run.
Leigh Chapman, the event’s coordinator, said all funds raised will go towards the school’s budget for the upcoming year. The school holds several fundraisers on an annual basis to provide the latest educational resources to their students, faculty and staff, Chapman said.
“Last year, we used the money raised for technology at the school. We normally look at what can be improved at the school and use the money we raised to do so,” Chapman said.
Throughout the year, the school also hosts events that give back to the community. In March, they held a walk to raise funds and awareness for the ALS Association. Students, parents, teachers and faculty all rallied together for the cause, the Item previously reported.
Pre-registration for the 5K and one-mile fun run begins at 7 a.m. at the school. The 5K run kicks off at 8 a.m. while the one-mile fun run begins at 9 a.m.
The 5K run will start at the school and will move through neighboring communities then down Goodyear Boulevard to the finish line at the school. The one-mile fun run will circle around the neighborhood near the school, Chapman said.
Anyone interested in participating can register online at http://www.stcbcatholicschool.org or print out a paper application and submit it to the school. Those interested can also register today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the school where participating runners will get the opportunity to pickup their packets before race day.
Registration is $35 per runner for the 5K and $20 for the one-mile fun run. Chapman said parents who register for the 5K can participate in the one-mile fun run for free if their child is participating.
Chapman hopes turnout is heavy for this event.
“This is a fun event where parents, students and teachers can get together right before school starts,” Chapman said.
Since the annual run began, more than 300 people have participated and raised money for the school, Chapman said.
Water, coffee, doughnuts, grilled sausage and fruit will be provided for runners and spectators on Saturday.
St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School is located at 1006 Goodyear Blvd., Picayune.
