The board of trustees for the Picayune School District approved several items for the upcoming school year during Tuesday’s meeting.

The board approved the purchase of a new school bus using district funds. They also approved an application for a small classroom enhancement grant provided by the Lower Pearl River Valley Foundation to improve educational resources at Nicholson Elementary and Picayune Memorial High School.

Also at the meeting, the board discussed the progress of the high school football field renovation project. The high school is currently working alongside EnviroTurf to upgrade the football field to a synthetic turf. Crews can be seen squaring the football field to ensure the turf fits within the field’s parameters. The project should be complete within the next couple of days, said Dean Shaw, superintendent of the Picayune School District.

“It’s about an eight day job and should be done for our first football game on Aug. 28,” Shaw said.

Also at the meeting, the board approved nursing students from Pearl River Community College to utilize the district’s Head Start facilities for their clinical observations.

The next board meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
