Some registered voters within Pearl River County will need to report to a different polling location to vote in the upcoming election. PRC Election Commission Chairman Reggie Hanberry said the county’s district lines were readjusted to balance the varying population sizes within each district as shown by the latest U.S. census report.

“Every district was affected in some way in order to equalize the voting population in the districts. The supervisors were responsible for changing the district lines to accommodate the population distribution,” Hanberry said.

Registered voters with Internet access are advised to visit www.sos.ms.gov to find their designated polling location. Voters can access their location by clicking on the elections tab then the polling place locator link where users are asked to provide their home address in order to access the designated polling place, County Administrator Adrain Lumpkin said.

“Change always confuses and excites people and we try to ensure they don’t have to drive anymore than six or eight miles farther than they had to drive before,” Hanberry said.

Monday, the Pearl River County Election Commission plans to test their electronic voting machines for the upcoming election at the National Guard Armory building in Poplarville, Hanberry said.

The primary election will take place Aug. 4, while the runoff for the primary election will take place Aug. 25. Election Day is Nov. 3, according to previous Item coverage.
