The Picayune Police Department arrested two men for residential burglary and possession of marijuana earlier this week.

On Tuesday at 3:06 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on Palestine Road in reference to a residential burglary, Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said.

The complainant said several items valuing at around $2,300 were stolen from her home, including two televisions, a PlayStation 3 along with numerous video games and a table, Magri said.

Investigation into the case discovered that two male subjects were allegedly seen breaking into the residence the night before and loading items into a green Ford SUV. It was also noted that one of the subjects walked with a bad limp, Magri said.

Investigators later learned the suspects previously lived across the street from the complainant, Magri said.

During the investigation, an officer familiar with the vehicle description linked it to 26-year-old Cortney Fisher of 1010 Palestine Rd. Apt. A, Magri said.

At that time, officers visited the address in an attempt to locate Fisher who wasn’t at home. Through their investigation, they learned Fisher, along with the suspected accomplice, identified as 32-year-old Steven Knowles of 1010 Palestine Rd Apt. A, were staying at 1407 Rosa St., Magri said.

When officers arrived at that location, they observed a green Ford SUV parked in the driveway. One of the officers walked up to the residence while the other walked up to the vehicle and found Knowles sitting inside in the passenger seat, Magri said. At that time, the officer asked Knowles to step out of the car. Once he did, the officer searched the vehicle and recovered a hand-rolled cigarette containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana on the passenger seat, Magri said.

When the officer took Knowles into custody he observed him walking with a bad limp, Magri said.

While Knowles was being taken into custody, the other officer made contact with Fisher who was inside the residence. At that time, both officers searched the home and recovered the stolen items, which were later returned to the complainant, Magri said.

Both suspects were transported to the Criminal Justice Center where officers conducted a more thorough search. At that time, an officer located a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana on Knowles’ person, Magri said.

Both suspects were charged with residential burglary. Knowles was additionally charged with possession of marijuana and introducing contraband into a correctional facility, Magri said.
