A man was shot inside his residence by an intruder late Friday night.
That night, the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department received a call at 9:53 p.m. from a complainant who said someone broke into his home and shot him, Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said.
When deputies responded to 27 Cecil Smith Rd., they found the complainant, 53-year-old Norman Paul Foster, sitting on the front steps of his home. He had what appeared to be a gunshot entry wound on the right side of his abdomen underneath his ribcage, Tucker said.
Foster told deputies he was in his bedroom when he heard his front door open and the suspect shot him just as he got out of bed, Tucker said.
Foster allegedly didn’t know who the suspect was and wasn’t able to give a description, Tucker said.
Foster was transported to a hospital immediately following the arrival of ambulance personnel and from there he was airlifted to Forrest General Hospital. His injuries weren’t life-threatening, Tucker said.
Investigators are actively working the case to determine the identity of the suspect and establish a motive for the shooting, Tucker said.
