Guilty plea entered in county cocaine case

Earlier this month, a Houston man was sentenced to five years in prison for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute in Pearl River County and surrounding areas.

Juan Resendez, 36, was accused of working alongside 35-year-old Nicholas Wilkes to conspire to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine into South Mississippi from 2005 until November of 2013, according to court records filed with the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Mississippi.

In January, Resendez pleaded guilty to the charge. In addition to the prison sentence, he’s also facing five years of post-release supervision and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment fee, according to the court records.

Wilkes also pleaded guilty to the same charge. In February, Wilkes was sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison, along with five years of post-release supervision, $8,000 in fines and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment fee, according to the court records.
