The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department responded to two burglaries this past weekend.

On Sunday, June 7, officers responded to the 1600 block of West Union Road at 8 p.m. regarding a burglary at a concession stand located at a baseball field, Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said.

At press time, officers are still working to identify anyone involved. The stolen items include a small amount of money and several snacks, Tucker said.

“We did recover some evidence but haven’t made any arrests,” Tucker said.

On Sunday, June 7, officers responded to a call at 12:30 a.m. regarding a residential burglary at the 200 block of Redman Road in Lumberton, Tucker said.

Through investigation into the case officers later recovered stolen items from 26-year-old Stephen Allen of 129 Roy Rd. in Lumberton, who was charged with residential burglary, Tucker said.

The department received the call from the homeowner’s friend who allegedly arrived at the home and heard someone exit the back door of the residence as he was about to open the front door, Tucker said.

At the time of the burglary, the homeowner was in the hospital so his friend was watching his place, Tucker said.

Before deputies arrived, the friend allegedly went to his truck to retrieve a firearm before heading inside the residence but the male suspect, later identified as Allen, had already fled, Tucker said.

When deputies arrived, they noticed entry to the home was gained by forcing the side door open. They also observed blood droplets around the homeowner’s truck, Tucker said.

As deputies searched the home, one of the K-9 units heard voices nearby and followed the sound until they reached a camper parked on Roy Road. The door to the camper was open and two males and a female were found inside, Tucker said.

One of the males was later identified as Allen, who allegedly had a cut on his hand and blood on his shorts, Tucker said.

At that time, officers searched Allen and recovered stolen items from his person, including several credit cards in the homeowner’s name, Tucker said.

After receiving consent from the camper’s owner, officers searched the vehicle and recovered several other stolen household items, Tucker said.

Allen was charged with residential burglary and is currently in custody with a $25,000 bond. The investigation showed the other male and female weren’t involved in the burglary, Tucker said.
