The Pearl River County School District chose an option to fund the high school football bleacher project at its monthly board meeting Monday night.
A major item on the agenda was the funding of the bleacher project. The board decided to go with option 2, which states that $470,000 will be taken from the 16th Section interest funds, and the remaining $314,000 will be taken from the district maintenance fund balance. Since this option was chosen, the 16th Section interest funds will be depleted and the district maintenance fund balance will be an estimated $4,386,000.
According to Superintendent Alan Lumpkin, everything is on track with the project.
During the meeting, Lumpkin made several presentations recognizing PRC students and their recent accomplishments.
Several students from Robert Bales Personal Leadership class talked about what they do in the class, and how it has helped them this semester. Students have different responsibilities in the class depending on the day of the week. These responsibilities include mentoring middle school age children, tutoring biology at the high school level and helping out at the lower elementary in whatever capacity they are needed.
Chelsey Roson, a student in the class, said before this semester she had not really given much thought to what she wanted to do after high school.
“Being in this program, I’ve had the opportunity to help students and I’ve decided to major in education after high school,” said Roson.
Lumpkin also recognized Andrew Lee, a fifth grade PRC student who won first place at the state reading fair last month. His language arts teacher, Jackie Dyle, presented Lee with a certificate.
The board also approved the purchase of an international school bus for $84,000.00.
