Shoppers and vendors will occupy three blocks of downtown Poplarville for the fifth annual Trash to Treasure hosted by the Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, May 2.

The flea market and garage sale begins at 7:30 a.m. and lasts until 1:30 p.m.

So far, 47 booths have registered, said Pam LaHaye, the event’s chairperson and chamber board member.

Saturday, Poplarville’s Main Street will be brimming with dozens of booths lined up from Hancock Bank to the Pearl River County Tax Collector’s office, LaHaye said.

“We have a lot of eclectic merchandise this time around,” LaHaye said.

Shoppers can expect to find homemade, garage sale and antique items from local and out-of-town vendors.

One of the vendors is a Gulf Coast resident who specializes in making furniture out of whiskey barrels, which will be available for purchase at the event, LaHaye said.

Several local businesses will be open, including Apple’s Limited, which LaHaye co-owns. They will be offering sale items during the event.

While the event will not have any food booths, Scooters will offer specials on their cuisine throughout the day, LaHaye said.

It’s not too late to register as a vendor.

Booth fees are $20 for a 12-by-12 space or two spaces for $35 while chamber members can set up a booth for $15 for a 12-by-12 space or two spaces for $25.

Vendor applications and registration information can be downloaded from the chamber’s website at www.poplarville.org. Applications can be turned in at the Chamber office located at 101 N. Main St. in Poplarville or at Apple’s Limited located at 512 S. Main St. in Poplarville.
