If you follow sports at all you know the name Tim Tebow. There is also a good chance you know Tebow was signed to the Philadelphia Eagles this week.
Good or bad, everyone has something to say on the polarizing figure that is Tim Tebow.
Tebow is from Jacksonville, Fla., which is also where I am from. He played college football for the Florida Gators, and I have been a Gator fan since I was 7-years-old. Some would argue these facts make it impossible for me to have an objective opinion on Tebow, however I disagree.
There is no question in anyone’s mind Tebow was an amazing player in college. He has a Heisman to prove that fact.
But, his career in the National Football League has been rocky at best. There are many factors that can be attributed to his struggles in the NFL: bad throwing mechanics, poor decision making in the pocket and poor accuracy. The fact is playing football in college and playing football in the NFL are two very different things.
We have seen it happen more than once, a Heisman Trophy winner goes on to the NFL and crashes and burns. A perfect example of this that I believe NFL fans will see unfold before their eyes this season will be Johnny Manziel. College is a different game. Mistakes that quarterbacks can get away with in college turn into interceptions and touchdowns in the pros. The game is faster and more sophisticated in the NFL.
So, do I think Tim Tebow will be successful at his fourth attempt in the NFL? No, I honestly can’t say I do. I believe he is one of the hardest working players out there, and I know he will give 110 percent. However, from everything he has shown me thus far, I just don’t think he has it.
Please do not get me wrong; I am one of the biggest Tim Tebow fans out there. I have the utmost respect for him, and everything he believes in. I think he has a bright future at ESPN as a football analyst, and I look forward to working with him one day.
If lightning happens to strike twice this season, and Tebow proves me wrong I will be happy to admit it.
