Local man struck by vehicle while trying to cross Interstate 59

Saturday morning around 6:30 a.m. Louisiana State Police were called to the scene of a fatal crash on Interstate 59, which claimed the life of 19-year-old Andrew C. Flores of Picayune.
According to a release from the department, Flores was riding in the backseat of a Nissan Altima that was being driven by a Levi Craddock of Lacombe, Louisiana. According to witness reports described in the release, Flores became agitated and began to interfere with Craddockâs ability to operate the vehicle.
Craddock pulled over onto the shoulder of I-59, and Flores exited the vehicle. Flores then attempted to cross the northbound lanes of I-59, but was struck by a Dodge Dakota. As a result of the impact, Flores suffered fatal injuries. The driver of the truck was 26-year-old Danny Winkles of Bay St. Louis, the release states.
Louisiana state troopers suspect Flores was impaired at the time of the crash, the release states. A blood sample from Flores was taken and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Winkles submitted to a breath alcohol test at the time of the crash, which found no traces of alcohol.
Louisiana law prohibits pedestrian traffic on the interstate.
