In the eye of the beholder

When women look at their reflection in the mirror, they often tend to notice their body’s flaws, especially since society is constantly pressuring us to look a certain way. However, a new marketing campaign is changing how we see ourselves.
Recently, plus-size clothing retailer Lane Bryant released a marketing campaign, which documents women of varying sizes modeling intimate apparel. The campaign is called #I’mNoAngel, which aims to show women that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
At an early age, we learn about body image through television, magazines or through our peers. Normally, the ideal body type is defined as thin and tall, like most Victoria Secret models, yet most women don’t fall into that category.
The constant pressure to look a certain way causes some women, and men, to develop a low self-esteem or an eating disorder.
Unfortunately, these body issues don’t go away when we reach adulthood, which is why this campaign is so necessary. After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In the end, all that matters is how you see yourself. As long as you’re happy and healthy, that’s all that really matters.
While there’s nothing wrong with being thin and tall, women must realize that every body type should be recognized, accepted and appreciated.
After all, we only have one life and one body so we might as well live happily instead of worrying about the things we can’t necessarily change about ourselves.
As a society, we’re constantly striving for perfection but perfection doesn’t exist.
Instead of focusing on our flaws, let’s embrace them because in the end health and happiness are all that matters.
