Inside a pine tree forest in Poplarville resides Swallowfork Lake and Cabins, where families and couples can enjoy an outdoor lakefront getaway rich in history.

The family owned and operated business began 20 years ago when owner Buddy Moody decided to build a man-made lake made of natural spring water on his property in Poplarville, which has been owned by his family for four generations.

Once the lake was complete, Moody and his family renovated and built several wooden cabins on the property that have served as a getaway for guests over the years, Moody said.

“We’re all about stewardship and nature conservation and making this a place people can enjoy at the same time,” Moody said.

Currently, there are three cabins on the property available for reservations. The first cabin is called the tenant, a renovated one-bedroom cabin by the lake, which used to be an old tenant farmer house. The second is called the cabin, a two-bedroom cabin built using timber wood. The largest cabin on the property is called the hyatt, a renovated three-bedroom cabin that used to be an old tenant farmer house built in the 1920’s.

In addition to the lodgings, several outdoor activities are available, including fishing, nature trails, boating and grilling and picnic areas.

Moody and his wife Robin also raise cattle on the property, which can be seen from one of the cabins.

Moody said it’s been a blessing to see so many of the same people come back over the years to enjoy the lake.

“A lot of people come here for family reunions, weddings and holidays,” Moody said. “And it’s wonderful to see people that came when they were kids come back with families of their own.”

Moody said he’s open to the possibility of adding more cabins in the future, but he’s enjoying what they have now.
