Thursday morning, two locals were arrested for manufacturing a controlled substance in their home.

At 10:42 a.m., officers from the Picayune Police Department were dispatched to a home located at 213 B. Norwood St. in reference to a welfare concern, Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said.

As officers approached the front door, they allegedly heard a male and female arguing inside. At that time, the officers heard the female yelling, “get off me,” Magri said. The officers proceeded to enter the residence and located the two, later identified as Lindsey Lewis, 20, and Devin Townsend, 19, both of 213 B. Norwood St., Magri said.

Officers noticed Lewis was visibly shaken and upset. While speaking with the two, officers observed three pots containing four marijuana plants growing in the bathroom, Margri said. One of the pots was under a grow light. The officers also found two bags of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in the bedroom and one clear plastic bag with what is believed to be synthetic marijuana in the living room, Magri said.

Officers also observed marijuana leaves lying beside the window in the living room being dried and burnt marijuana cigarettes throughout the residence, Magri said.

He also said that there was a 1-year-old child inside the residence at the time.

Both Lewis and Townsend were transported to the Criminal Justice Center, where they were booked and incarcerated for manufacturing a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school or church and child abuse. The child was placed into the custody of a family member, Magri said.

Currently, both Lewis and Townsend are waiting to appear before a judge for their bond hearing.
