National Guard family day

After the Picayune National Guard completes their monthly drill this weekend, the soldiers will enjoy an opportunity to eat with friends and family.
“We have other requirements we have to meet first, but the December drill is usually considered a Christmas party,” said Sgt. First Class Jory Babin.
Babin said the soldiers report to the armory early in the morning to complete their mandated duty. Enlisted members of the National Guard report to drill one weekend a month, in addition to a two-week training period that usually takes place during the summer months.
Once the soldiers are finished with their required assignments, their families will join them for lunch. The food is provided by Ryan’s restaurant in Picayune. Babin says it is an afternoon that the soldiers look forward to every year.
“Anytime we can get the families involved, it’s great,” said Babin, “It’s about giving back to the families and showing them appreciation for all the things they do for us.”
The event will take place around 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Picayune National Guard Armory in Friendship Park.
