Friday night showdown in Poplarville

For the majority of Pearl River County residents, there is nothing like a Friday night spent at the local high school football field.
The stands are filled with proud parents of football players, cheerleaders, band and dance team members. There are also many alumni and city officials who attend the games.
This year, there are three local teams to be in awe of, Picayune Memorial High School Maroon Tide, Pearl River Central High School Blue Devils and the Poplarville Hornets.
All of these teams have what it takes to excite and stir the crowds in the bleachers.
However, last Friday night’s Hornets game was one of the most intense and well-played games so far of the Hornets’ season.
The Hornets took on the Stone County Tomcats and defeated the team in overtime with a two-point conversion.
It was a well-played game by both teams.
The Hornets players displayed a lot of heart and determination to win the nail-biter of a game.
The score remained tied throughout the majority of the four quarters.
The Hornets scored and almost immediately after the Tomcats would score.
This will surely be a game that Hornets fans will talk about for months to come.
The boys never gave up on their game, their teammates and didn’t disappoint coaches and fans.
Looking up at the stands and seeing the excitement and pride on the faces of the proud supporters was a sight to behold.
The cheers were deafening, as referees declared the two-point conversion good.
It was a great night to be in Poplarville and the Picayune Item is proud of the Hornets football players and coaches.
Thanks boys for giving Poplarville a Friday night game to remember.
