Alina Dale Lamey has pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of her then live-in boyfriend.

The case began on Jan. 19, 2013 after Lamey called emergency personnel to a home located at 59 B. Burgetown Rd., where she and her live-in boyfriend, 33-year-old Nickoles Ray Sullivan, resided. The call was in response to Sullivan suffering a gunshot wound to his back, according to a previous story in the Item.

According to that story, she told investigators that an unseen person had shot Sullivan, after which time he walked toward his house and fell near the front porch. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene, the story states.

Twelve hours later an investigation into the matter led to Lamey’s arrest on the charge of murder.

Fifteenth District Attorney Hal Kittrell said Lamey pleaded to the charge of second-degree murder on July 7, and she is set for sentencing by the honorable 15th Circuit Court Judge Prentiss Harrell in August of this year.

The sentence for second-degree murder ranges from 20 to 40 years, Kittrell said.

The investigation showed that Lamey, now 42-years-old, and Sullivan had engaged in a fight that day. Kittrell said it appeared as though during the course of that day she had shot at him several times while he was in the back yard using a .22 caliber revolver, Kittrell said.

“But one actually hit him,” Kittrell said.

It was determined the shot that struck him in the back was from a distance of about 80 feet, Kitrell said.

“If she gets 20 years or better it will be on par with had she been guilty of murder,” Kittrell said.
