Investigators with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations are working a homicide case that involved the death of a 42-year-old man Monday night.
Mississippi Department of Public Safety Director of Public Affairs Warren Strain said the details of the case are still being gathered, but could confirm MBI is working a homicide case that occurred near Poplarville.
He said while no charges have been pressed, they have an individual in custody who has been admitted to the hospital.
He said additional details are forthcoming as the investigation continues.
Pearl River County Deputy Coroner Albert Lee said the deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Shannon Paul Lee, of Pearl River La., and that next of kin have been notified.
Poplarville Police Chief Charlie Fazende said the incident occurred between 10:30 and 11 p.m. Monday night at the south bound exit ramp near mile marker 29 of Interstate 59.
Initial information suggests an edged weapon was used in the homicide, but forensics is working to confirm, Fazende said.
“There was a lot of blood at the scene,” Fazende said.
Fazende said, to his recollection, this is the third homicide to occur in Poplarville during his 17 years with the police department.
