The Hattiesburg “ZooLights” returns tonight at 6 p.m. for families to come and “create lasting memories with your family this holiday season,” said a Hattiesburg Zoo press release.
This is the second year the Hattiesburg Zoo is hosting the holiday event, which will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, Dec. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21.
“It was a huge success last year. So much so that we doubled the amount of nights this year,” said Kristie Fairley, deputy director of marketing and communications.
Fairley said this year a 3D light display has been added to the event to go along with the other activities from last year.
Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for children that will allow the family to take a train ride on the “Polar Bear Express” while enjoying a cup of hot chocolate to see all of the light displays, including the new 3D lights.
Fairley said the “Candy Cane Carousel” will be open for unlimited rides and that families also can enjoy writing letters to Santa, as well as animal shows, animal encounters and creating reindeer food.
Fairley said children will have an opportunity to meet Santa Claus.
Each ZooLights ends the night with a parade through the zoo.
Fairley said everyone is always looking for great opportunities to “create traditions that will be remembered for many years to come” and that “Zoo Lights is a great opportunity to make this a tradition.”
Before ZooLights starts on this Friday and Saturday, the Hattiesburg Zoo will also host “Sunset Breakfast with Santa” at 5 p.m. For $25 per person, guests will have an opportunity to have breakfast with Santa and be the first to see ZooLights and ride on the “Polar Bear Express.” Included in the $25 is the admission to ZooLights and a small holiday gift, Fairley said.
“It’s going to be a really fun way to celebrate Christmas”
The Hattiesburg Zoo suggests to avoid standing in line, those who wish to attend can purchase tickets in advance online at www.hattiesburgzoo.com. Tickets to “Sunset Breakfast with Santa” are limited and only available through advanced purchase online.
“There have been many efforts to improve and enhance our zoo over the last few years. We’re very fortunate because people are so supportive of our zoo,” Fairley said.
