There will be no run-off in the Nov. 2 election for the District Two Pearl River County school board race, says Circuit Court Clerk Vickie Hariel.
The Item incorrectly reported on Sunday that there would be.
“Whoever gets the most votes in that race will win on Nov. 2,” she said.
The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 2 General Election is 12 noon Saturday at the Poplarville courthouse and 5 p.m. Friday at Picayune’s Chimney Square. There will be no Saturday registration in Picayune.
District Two school board member Bonnie Sanders faces three opponents in the Nov. 2 Special Election for the post, being held in conjunction with the Nov. 2 General Election.
Her three opponents are: Michael F. Holmes, Ryan H. Richard and R. Jeremy Weir.
In the Nov. 2 Special Election for District Two supervisor, there is the possibility of a run-off if no one gets a majority of votes cast, that is, 50 percent plus one vote, says Hariel.
If a run-off is needed in that race, it will be held three weeks later on Tuesday, Nov. 23, she said.
There are eight candidates in the District Two supervisors’ race to fill the unexpired term of former supervisor, the late Charles E. Culpepper.
The eight are current interim District Two supervisor Joyce Culpepper, Culpepper’s widow, Virgil C. “Kent” Dunn, Joe Knezevich, Rayford Lee, Daryl Smith, Rafe Smith, Keith Stines and Sidney A. Woodson.
Prospective voters can mail in an application for voting by pulling an application off the Internet at the Secretary of State’s Web site, filling it out and mailing it by noon Sunday, Oct. 3, to the Pearl River County circuit clerk’s office. The address is on the Web site. It must be postmarked prior to that date.
To register to vote you must be 18 or older by Nov. 2.
Deadline for absentee voting is Saturday, Oct. 30 at noon. You can cast an absentee ballot by noon on Oct. 30. This week, those living in and near Picayune have to come to the courthouse to cast an absentee ballot but by next week absentee ballots, can be cast at Chimney Square in Picayune, said Hariel.
You can also vote absentee in Picayune on Saturday, Oct. 23 and 30, until noon.
If you are disabled and unable to get to the polls, you can call 601-403-2328 and the circuit clerk’s office will send you a ballot in the mail.
