Watkins to face Valente in run off

In the only race with more than two candidates, Council Precinct One, unofficial results have incumbent Larry E. Watkins and Tammy Valente meeting in the second primary election on Tuesday, May 21.
Valente had 172 votes with 39.81 percent of votes cast and Watkins had 153 with 35.42 percent of the votes.
Watkins declined to comment, and Valente was not at City Hall when the votes were counted.
In Precinct Two, incumbent Lynn Bogan Bumpers came out of the race with 221 votes, receiving 74.16 percent of the votes cast, and her opponent, Chris Carter, had 77 votes, or 25.84 percent.
Janice Miller Stevens defeated the incumbent in Precinct Three, Jason Todd Lane, having 55.11 percent of the votes with 97. Lane had 44.89 percent of the votes with 79.
With 251 votes, the incumbent councilman in Precinct Five, Wayne Gouget, received 66.76 percent of the votes, while Brian Goetzmann had 124 votes, at 32.98 percent.
Precinct Four incumbent Councilman Larry Breland had no opposition.
Overall, city-wide voter turnout was 18.34 percent with 1,445 totals votes cast.
The primary runoff will take place on Tuesday, May 21 and the general election is on Tuesday, June 4, when incumbent Mayor Ed. Pinero will face Democratic challenger Mark Thorman.
There are 68 absentee ballots and fewer than 10 affidavit ballots to be counted.
