Picayune City Manager Jim Luke and Diane Miller met with Picayune Memorial High School art teacher, Lauren Cloutet, about a tribute banner to Picayune schools of the past and present, which Cloutet and her art club will design.

Luke said, “We were extremely excited about the project as it will honor our past, acknowledge our present and leave room for future accomplishments.

“We reached out to Dean Shaw who graciously gave us access to high school year books. The high school art teacher has been asked to design a banner which honors both Picayune Memorial and George Washington Carver High School. We would appreciate any photos of these schools or groups from the schools, especially any past championship teams.”

Miller said, “We are asking for anyone who may have old photos of Picayune as it relates to schools, clubs, civic projects or anything that would contribute to us showing a slice of our past, to contact us at the Intermodal Center. This is will fit in perfectly with precedent begun by the Train Museum but we would like to focus on city leaders of the past. Any old photographs of former mayors, city managers or city clerks would be very appreciated since we have set aside a wall dedicated to the leaders of the past.”

Cloutet has already been working on preliminary designs with her art club.

“The group is very excited to be part of this historical event and we are confident that the design will do justice to the criteria set forth by the city; we are honored to be part of the process,” she said.
