The Mississippi fire marshal’s office says it has filed charges against 12 people in eight counties for installing mobile homes without having the required license.
The misdemeanor charges were filed recently in Bolivar, Claiborne, Humphreys, Jackson, Panola, Prentiss, Quitman, Washington and Wayne counties.
The spokeswoman for the fire marshal’s office, Donna Cromeans, said Friday that nine of the 12 people have been convicted. Conviction carries up to a $1,000 fine and a year in jail.
State law requires the fire marshal’s office to inspect every mobile home installed since July 1, 2009.
