Tom N. “Tom” Jones, 53, of Picayune, formerly of McLaurin, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at his residence.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2010 at McLaurin Cemetery under the direction of Hulett Winstead Funeral Home Inc.
He was a Teacher at Pearl River Central High School and a member of McLaurin United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, T. Norman Jones.
He is survived by: his mother, Mary E. Jones of McLaurin; one sister, Jean Light of Dixie Community; one brother, Dewitt Jones of Richton, Miss.; and special friends, Murry Pate, Marilyn Pate and Dalton Pate, friend and caregiver.
Visitation will held Friday, October 29, 2010 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home.
Donations can be made to the Tom Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund at First National Bank of Picayune. During his 25 year teaching career, he influenced the lives of thousands of students. His love for teaching and sense of humor left a lasting impression on this community. He was a great teacher, loyal friend, and wise mentor. In his years teaching at Pearl River Central High School, he served as the Graduation committee chairman, Robotics sponsor and National Honor Society advisor. The awarding of this scholarship will allow students the opportunity to pursue a career and honor Mr. Jones’ enthusiasm for science and teaching.
