QUITMAN, Miss. — The Picayune Lady Tide saw its slow pitch softball season come to an end Thursday night with a first round loss in the Class 4A South State playoffs on the road at highly ranked Quitman.
The homestanding Lady Panthers swept the Lady Tide in the opening round.
Quitman won a close 2-1 decision in game one of the best of three series and then maintained that momentum in a 13-2 win in the nightcap of the series.
The games end Picyune’s season at 16-5. Quitman, ranked second in the state, moves on to face the D’Iberville-Brookhaven winner in the South State semifinals on Saturday.
In game one, Tiffany Reed had three hits for Picayune.
The Lady Panthers then scored four quick runs in the first inning of game two and put the game away with five more runs in the fourth.
