The city of Pascagoula has launched a study on where it might designate bicycle routes within the city.
The study will use volunteers to assess all of the major roads, and some smaller ones, as potential bike routes.
Harry Schmidt, director of community development, said the study began in June and about 80 percent of the work has been done.
Schmidt says the volunteers rode the possible routes and noted speed limits, size and condition of the shoulder, number of intersections and general suitability for cycling.
Schmidt says the city also is developing a blueway, or kayaking trail, to run from the Audubon Nature Center in Moss Point to an area around the U.S. Highway 90 bridge.
