The mural shows two bridges, from two different time periods, merging with the Tombigbee River.

The 12-foot-by-30-foot mural was designed by a Mississippi University for Women instructor.

It graces the side of the Rex’s Rentals building in downtown Columbus. It can be seen by drivers approaching eastward from U.S. Highway 82 onto Main Street.

The bridge on the left is the 1877 bridge; on the right is the 1920’s bridge, which is still at the river, but is not in use. The scenery includes a riverboat, people in period costuming and boats.

MUW student artists Jonathan Cumberland, Chelsey Herron, Billy Nickoles and Nathan Wright worked from for more than four weeks on the mural. They participated in a reunion this past week to view their work.
