Clay County adopts ’smoke free’ policy

Clay County supervisors have voted to bar smoking in county buildings and vehicles.
The policy applies to county workers and the public. It took effect this past week.
However, the policy, unlike an ordinance, carries no penalty and does not affect private buildings or businesses.
Every employee will be required to sign a tobacco-free policy statement.
Supervisors say the policy will include the local health and welfare offices, sheriff’s department and road crews, as well as county offices in buildings owned by other agencies, such as the WIN Job Center.
