A $22 million bond issue to finance construction of a new jail will be decided by Jackson County voters on November 4.
The board of supervisors approved the election date this week.
The proposed jail would house 564 inmates and will take about two years to build. The current jail was built in 1968 and is intended to hold 180 inmates but has more than 400 daily.
The referendum would deal only with the financing of the new jail, not the location.
