Two arrests, one part of an investigation and another due to a traffic stop, pulled alleged cocaine products off the streets.

The first arrest was part of a narcotics investigation dealing with crack cocaine on Aug. 13. Three suspects were taken into custody, Kenneth R. Jones, 43, of 121 Greenview Dr.; Patricia A. Durapau, 52, of 201 Airport Rd., and James Durapau, 59, also of 201 Airport Rd.

A surveillance of a home located at 201 Airport Rd. in Picayune stemmed from complaints of alleged drug activity in the area, said Picayune Police Public Information Officer Capt. Theresa Milar. During that surveillance investigators witnessed Jones pull into the driveway of the home. In the driveway investigators suspected a drug transaction was taking place, Milar said.

Investigators stopped Jones’ vehicle, at which time he could be seen throwing items out of the window. As they approached the car Jones could be seen chewing and attempting to swallow what appeared to be crack cocaine, Milar said. When orders were given for Jones to spit out the substance, he would not comply.

Officers eventually got Jones to spit out the substance, found to be a plastic bag containing a white rock like substance, Milar said. Jones was taken into custody.

Investigators then went back to the Durapau home and arrested the two residents. Both Patricia Durapau and James Durapau were charged with conspiracy to sell a controlled substance, Milar said.

Jones was charged with sale of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a church or school, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest by fighting, conspiracy to sell a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

A second incident took place on Aug. 14, where a traffic stop lead to the arrest of Deriera Alejandour Magee, 37, 617 Weems St.

The traffic stop was conducted because an officer saw Magee driving without his seatbelt, Milar said. As the officer conducted the stop Magee was found to have a suspended driver’s license. The officer could also smell the odor of burnt marijuana.

When the officer asked Magee about the smell Magee admitted he was smoking marijuana but threw it out the window when he saw the officer turn around to make the traffic stop. A search of the vehicle found some alleged marijuana and a white powder substance. Magee was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent, possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, no seatbelt, no driver’s license, expired tag and no proof of insurance.
