Hurley wastewater public hearing set

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality will hear public comment Thursday on a $4 million wastewater project in Hurley that would expand and improve sewer service.
The hearing will be held at the East Central Community on Mississippi Highway 614.
The project awaits only a state environmental permit in order for construction to begin.
In February, the Jackson County Utility Authority acquired 20 acres for a wastewater facility capable of treating up to 75,000 gallons per day.
Officials say the system would treat residential and light commercial sewage from about 300 connections.
The Hurley project is part of a $630 million, five-county effort to enhance sewer and water systems along the Gulf Coast.
