Thanksgiving closing times listed

The holidays are upon us and many agencies and businesses adjust their operations to allow personnel time off to observe the event.

Thanksgiving Day is today. Most retail businesses and banks will be closed that day only unless otherwise noted.

In Picayune, Wal-Mart is the only retail store to maintain regular hours during Thanksgiving. The store will be open 24 hours.

Winn Dixie will be open from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Walgreens will be closed.

City of Picayune residents who have their garbage picked up on Thursdays will have their garbage picked up on Friday. Friday customers will have their garbage picked up on Saturday.

Bank Plus, The First, Hancock and Regions Banks in the City of Picayune will be closed Thursday, and reopen regular hours on Friday.

Of the two grocery stores in Poplarville, the IGA-Sunflower will be closed all day Thursday; Greer’s Food Store will be open Thanksgiving Day until 1 p.m.

Poplarville’s two pharmacies — Boone’s and Pearl River Drugs — both will be closed all day Thursday.

The three area banks — Hancock Bank, BankPlus and First National Bank — will be closed Thursday only.

The United States Post Office in Poplarville will close at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 26 and reopen on Friday, Nov. 28, for regular hours.

All campuses of the Poplarville Separate Municipal School District are closed for the Thanksgiving holiday from Monday to Friday, Nov. 24-28, and will reopen for classes Monday, Dec. 1.

The campuses of Pearl River Community College will also be closed on those dates for the holiday.

Offices of Pearl River County government will be closed both Thursday and Friday, as will Poplarville city hall at the intersection of Hwy. 26 and South Main Street.

As noted last week, residential garbage pickup for the city of Poplarville which normally runs on Friday will be serviced on Saturday, Nov. 29.

The Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce office at North Main and West North Street will also be closed Thursday and Friday.
