The Hancock County Board of Supervisors has overruled a zoning change that would have allowed a new casino in the Diamondhead community.
Jacobs Entertainment has 10 days to appeal the supervisors’ decision to circuit court. The company wants to build a 100,000-square-foot building with 40,000 square feet of gaming space.
The resort also would include a venue for entertainment, three restaurants, meeting and retail space and a 250-room hotel.
Supervisors voted 3-2 to overrule a decision by the county’s planning commission that would have allowed construction of the casino by changing the zoning from residential to casino resort.
Some Diamondhead residents were opposed to the zoning change.
