Hancock County District 5 Supervisor Jay Cuevas was found dead in his barn on Wednesday.
A press release from Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood’s office said that a misdemeanor warrant had been issued for Cuevas. The investigator handling the case called Cuevas to ask him to come in and surrender so that he would not have to be arrested at his home, according to the release.
When Cuevas did not appear, the investigator went to Cuevas’ home and found him in his barn, deceased.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s office said the death apparently was suicide and is still under investigation.
