Shrimp company owner gets probation

The owner of a Mississippi shrimp packing company who pleaded guilty to making a false claim for federal aid has been sentenced to two years of probation.
U.S. District Judge Jay Zainey in New Orleans also on Tuesday ordered Earl Fayard Jr. to pay a $2,000 fine and perform 50 hours of community service.
The 59-year-old resident of Ocean Springs, Miss., owned and operated Ocean Springs Seafood Market. In January, he pleaded guilty to making a false claim with the U. S. Customs and Border Protection, which distributes funds to U.S. seafood producers competing with foreign imports.
